If your organization has volume licenses, you can allow those licenses to be used by your students or artists at home. To do this, please follow these steps:
- Deactivate your existing ZBrush copies so that those activations are then available elsewhere. To deactivate, log into My Licenses and click the button next to your license key to request deactivation. Select all current activations, then continue with the deactivation request. Once completed, your volume license will have all activations in use.
- While on My Licenses, click the button to download ZBrush. Be sure to download both Windows and macOS installers. Put these installers somewhere that you can provide download links to your users.
- Your users will each download from the links you provide and install ZBrush. When they launch ZBrush it will ask for activation. Have them choose Offline Activation. This will create a .zreq file. They must email that file to someone that you designate for this purpose, such as your instructor or their team leader.
- The person who receives the .zreq files from the users will need to go to http://pixologic.com/offline. On this page they will be asked for the Pixologic ID (the info used to log into My Licenses). They will upload the .zreq file and the site will give them back a .zact file. They will then email that file back to the person it was created for. (See helpful suggestion below.)
- The user will launch ZBrush, which will now be asking for the .zact file. They will be able to load the file received by email, completing the activation.
ZBrush will now run on that computer for as long as necessary. When the COVID-19 crisis ends, you can return to My Licenses to request deactivation of all these copies. This will immediately free the license for use in reactivating your on-campus machines.
Helpful Suggestion: When converting the .zreq file to a .zact file you will have the option to provide the computer's description/name. By default, the system gives the computer's name as defined by the user's operating system. For this purpose it is a good idea to change the name to that of the end user. That way you will be able to easily identify the specific activation if you ever need to use My Licenses to locate and deactivate that copy.
Of course, if you have more users than you have licenses for, this won't work. For example, if you have a lab with 20 copies of ZBrush that gets used by multiple classes throughout the day then you would have need for more users than your volume license actually allows. In that case we strongly recommend that you change to floating licensing and place the license manager on a cloud-based server or a physical machine that is accessible from off campus.
