Now Available: Floating Licenses for ZBrush 4R7 P3

Floating licenses use a server rather than a serial number.  If you have a serial number, you do not have a floating license and this article does not apply to you.

The floating license client for ZBrush 4R7 P3 is now available.  To receive it, the IT manager in charge of your organization's licenses should submit a Support ticket.  In the ticket, include one of your existing license files so that we can ensure that the correct upgrade instructions are sent to you.

The auto update system will not work to upgrade 4R6 to 4R7.  You must use a Support ticket for this upgrade.

ZBrush 4R7 P3 Has Been Released

ZBrush 4R7 P3 is now available as a FREE upgrade for all registered users.

If you have not yet upgraded to ZBrush 4R7 you may upgrade immediately at the Pixologic Website:  CLICK HERE  This link will provide you 4R7 with the P3 patch already applied.

Please note that the Auto Update feature cannot be used to upgrade from 4R6 or earlier.  You will need to use the stand-alone installer from the link above.  You will also need your serial number, which is the same one that you have had for every release in the ZBrush 4.x series.

If you already have 4R7 (any release) you may use the Auto Update feature to get the P3 patch or you may use the stand-alone installer.  We recommend that you use the stand-alone installer.  Simply uninstall your current copy of 4R7 and then use the upgrade link above to download the newest installer.  If you do wish to use the Auto Update despite the recommendation otherwise, browse to your ZBrush 4R7 folder and run the ZUpgrader application found there.  This will download the update patch and guide you through installation of it.  However, be warned that most of the issues encountered after release of a patch prove to have been caused by using the auto update rather than doing a stand-alone installation.

ZBrush 4R7 supports -- but does not include -- the ZBrush to KeyShot Bridge and any release of KeyShot 5.  The ZBrush to KeyShot Bridge may be purchased from the Pixologic Store.  There you will also find a special edition KeyShot for ZBrush.

Avast Antivirus: Known Issue

Update 7/18/2014:  Avast's most recent updates appear to have resolved this issue.  If you have Avast and your ZBrush.exe was removed, please follow the instructions below.  If you have Avast and have not been affected, you should no longer need to worry about it after making sure you are updated to the most current Avast update.  Thanks!

As of this morning, Avast Antivirus has started spontaneously deleting the ZBrush.exe from computers.  We are currently communicating with the publisher to have the issue resolved.  There is no ETA on this, however.

If your copy of ZBrush has been deleted, here are methods to get it back:

  1. Open Avast, right-click on one of the four big icons (the "Add one if it's available) and choose Change Shortcut > Virus Chest.  Now click on the Virus Chest shortcut.  Within the Virus Chest you will hopefully see the ZBrush.exe.  If so, right-click it and choose "Restore and Add to exclusions".  This will put ZBrush back and also prevent Avast from repeating its mistake.
  2. If ZBrush is not found in the Virus Chest then you will need to reinstall it.  There are two ways to do this:
    • Reinstall ZBrush over top of your original installation.  (Recommended)
    • Install ZBrush to a temporary location, copy the ZBrush.exe back into its proper location and then uninstall the new installation.  
  • Note: Neither of these methods will add ZBrush to Avast's exclusions list, so you should make a backup copy of the ZBrush.exe just in case Avast removes it again.  If you don't have a backup copy of your ZBrush installer you will need to download it again.  If you originally purchased ZBrush at version 4R5 or earlier, you can get the installer from https://pixologic.com/zbrush/downloadcenter/instructions/full-installer.php.  If you purchased ZBrush 4R6 then the download link will be in the same email that has your serial number.  Please be aware that download links are valid for 2 downloads or 1 week, whichever comes first.  As a result, you may get a message telling you that your download has expired.  In that case you will need to submit a Support ticket so that we can renew your download for you.

 

Unfortunately, this is something that was totally beyond our control and impossible for us to predict.  However, we hope that the above information will help you out.  If you do need further assistance, please submit a Support ticket.  We will be happy to help!
