ZBrush 4R8 Update 1 Now Available
Posted by Matthew Yetter on 29 June 2017 02:46 PM

ZBrush 4R8 P1 is now available for download.

This patch is highly recommended for all users and includes the following new features:

  • Floating License Clients have been released with Patch 1.
    • IT Managers should submit a Support ticket for upgrade instructions.
  • Added a "Modulate By Color" slider to NanoMesh.
  • Boolean preference was added to allow user control to delete the temporary Make Boolean Mesh files.
  • A Claytubes-Constant brush has been added. This will allow constant depth to the surface when a morph target is applied.
  • A Brush3D Template Project has been added with a polygroup outline.  This will make preparing VDM's easier.

The P1 patch also includes a number of changes for improved stability in ZBrush 4R8.  See Here

Users that have not yet upgraded to ZBrush 4R8 can simply follow all instructions in our Download Center.  Please do not skip Step 1.

Floating license users will need special upgrade instructions.  Please have your IT manager submit a Support Ticket.

People who have already upgraded to ZBrush 4R8 can browse to their ZBrush 4R8 folder and run the ZUpgrader application found there.  This will update your copy of ZBrush to version 4R8 P1 and will not require you to activate again afterward.

  • It is not recommended to run the Auto Update from within the ZPlugin palette in ZBrush.  Please run the ZUpgrader application instead.
  • If ZUpgrader does not work properly for you, download the stand-alone updater for your platform: Mac OS X or Windows.  After downloading, this updater may be run from any location on your computer, including the Downloads folder.  It will update your 4R8 installation to 4R8 P1 without requiring you to activate ZBrush again afterward.
  • If for some reason neither update method works properly for you -- or if you prefer to have a "fresh" ZBrush 4R8 P1 installation -- simply uninstall ZBrush 4R8 and then install 4R8 P1 using the full installer from Step 2 on the Download Center.  After installing, you will need to use Web Activation to generate a replacement activation code.

Happy ZBrushing!

ZBrush 4R8 is Now Available
Posted by Matthew Yetter on 13 June 2017 06:05 PM

ZBrush 4R8 is Now Available!

(Serialized licenses only.  Floating licenses will follow.  See the FAQ below.)

We currently anticipate that an update will be released sometime on Thursday, June 29.  Floating licenses will be made available then, as well.

Please carefully follow these instructions to find the correct path for you:

Upgrading is FREE for anyone who has ever purchased a ZBrush license, no matter how long ago.

  • Upgrading from ZBrush 4R7:
    • We strongly recommend that you use the Full Installer method.  Follow ALL steps on this page.
      • We also recommend making a backup copy of the installer after you have downloaded it.
    • Use of the Auto Updater is not recommended because it can cause issues with an upgrade of this size.  It also will not create an uninstaller for ZBrush 4R8.  However, if for some reason you are unable to download the Full Installer you may browse to your ZBrush 4R7 folder and run the Upgrader application found there.
    • After installing 4R8 you will need to activate it.  During the initial launch period, Phone Activation will not be available.  If your ZBrush computer has no internet access, please follow these instructions to activate via Support ticket.
  • Upgrading from ZBrush 4.0 through 4R6:
    • You must use the Full Installer method.  Follow ALL steps on this page.
    • After installing 4R8 you will need to activate it.  During the initial launch period, Phone Activation will not be available.  If your ZBrush computer has no internet access, please follow these instructions to activate via Support ticket.
  • Upgrading from ZBrush 3.5 or earlier:
    • Submit a Support ticket.  Be sure to include your license information such as your serial number, the name that the license is registered under and the email address that we would have on record for your account.

ZBrushCore users may upgrade to ZBrush 4R8 and receive a USD $100 discount off the purchase price.  (Your cost will be USD $695.)  You will keep your existing ZBrushCore license, allowing you to work with whichever program you wish at any time.  This also makes it easy to get all of your ZBrushCore creations moved over to ZBrush 4R8.

  • Upgrade through the My Licenses web page.  When you log in you will be able to see your ZBrushCore license, with an Upgrade option next to it.  Simply click the button and follow the on-screen instructions.

ZBrush 4R8 is also now available for new purchases through our online store.  Buy Now

Q: Where do I get my serial number?

A: Your serial number was emailed to you when you purchased or upgraded to ZBrush 4.x.  It is unchanged for version 4R8.  If you no longer have a record of it, please use My Licenses.  You may need to register on that page (using the same email address that your license is registered under) before you can log in.

Q: What do I do if my email address has changed?

A: You can upgrade simply by filling in the old email address where requested.  Nothing will actually be sent to your email address -- it's all displayed on the web pages.  However, you should at your earliest convenience submit a Support ticket to have your registered email address updated.

Q: Do I need to deactivate my current version?

A: It is technically not necessary to do so, but strongly recommended just the same!  Please deactivate the old version before activating 4R8.

Q: Can I use the Auto Updater?

A: If you have ZBrush 4R7, yes.  For all other versions of ZBrush, no.  Even if you do have version 4R7 it is recommended to use the Full Installer if at all possible.  There are many issues that can be caused by using the Auto Updater for an upgrade of this size.

Q: Is there a 32-bit version?

A: Support for 32-bit operating systems has been discontinued.  The last version that had 32-bit support was 4R7.  If you still have a 32-bit OS you should stay with that version until you upgrade your computer.  At that time, you will be able to upgrade to ZBrush 4R8.

Q: Which operating system versions are required for ZBrush 4R8?

A: For Windows, it is unchanged and requires Windows Vista or newer.  For Mac OS X we now require OS X 10.8 or higher.

Q: Do I need to upgrade KeyShot or the ZBrush to KeyShot Bridge?

A: No upgrades are required at this time.

Q: Where do I get the floating license installer?

A: We estimate that the installer for floating license clients (those that use a server instead of serial number) will be made available approximately 10 business days after the launch of 4R8.  If any patches are necessary we want to get them included before releasing the floating license version in order to minimize deployment issues for our large volume customers.  This also ensures that you'll have the most stable version for your production work.  Update:  This is expected to happen sometime on Thursday, June 29.

Q: ZBrush 4R8 Mac Version Live Boolean “Generate Mesh” Does Not Work

A: The Live Boolean > Make Boolean Mesh process is currently unavailable for users of OSX 10.9.5 (Mavericks). While the Live Boolean Preview works as it should, clicking the “Make Boolean Mesh” button won’t actually result in a mesh being created.  We are investigating ways to fix this issue, but until such a solution can be implemented the only way to fully use the Live Boolean feature in ZBrush 4R8 would be to upgrade your Mac OSX to the latest version.
